Role: Solo UX/UI Designer
Timeline: 6-Hour UX Design Sprint
Platform: Responsive Web (Desktop & Mobile)
Tools: Figma, User Research & Quantitative Surveying
1. Executive Summary
Generic online learning platforms face high user churn during signup due to tedious forms and overwhelming course catalogs.
SkillSphere is an upskilling platform designed to help learners reach their career goals quickly. In this 6-hour sprint, I designed an adaptive, progressive onboarding experience that minimizes initial setup time, gathers user preferences visually, and delivers instant value on Day 1.
2. User Research & Quantitative Insights
To validate onboarding friction points, I conducted user surveys across target learners. The data highlighted clear user expectations:
- Speed is Essential: 76.8% of users expect initial setup to take under 5 minutes.
- Low-Friction Authentication: 61.5% prefer Social/Google Single Sign-On over traditional forms.
- Demand for Personalization: 69.8% rated personalized dashboard setup as top priority (5/5).
- Guided Discovery: 48% found interactive product tours the most helpful onboarding element.
- User Autonomy: 49% explicitly required the option to skip parts of the onboarding tour.
